Twix Cookies Inspiration

I was inspired to make these Twix Cookie Cups while surfing Pinterest (where else). I came across this delicious little recipe from 2007. Tucked away in the annals of Pinterest by one of the best, Tartlette.

Helene, the writer of Tartlette, is also the writer of my very favorite foodie photography how-to, Plate to Pixel. If you’re a food blogger, you better buy that book. Every single food bloggerHAS to read it. Okay moving on…

Helene made a similar recipe to these Twix Cookie Cups back in 2007 and I wish I would have found it way back then! I changed a couple things to make it even easier for the novice in all of us. But otherwise this is her idea and her recipe. THANK YOU TARTLETTE!!!

How to Make Twix Cookies

I love this Twix Cookies recipe for many reasons. The main reason, of course, is because they are just so darn delicious. What’s not to love about layers of chocolate and caramel?

But I also love these cookie cups because they’re so easy to make! Cookie cups are a fun alternative to regular ole’ cookies, you just bake them in a muffin pan.

How to Make Twix Cookies:

  1. Take 1/2 inch sections of premade sugar cookie dough & press them into a greased muffin tin
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 350°F
  3. Create cookie cups by pushing a shot glass into the dough
  4. Let cool for a couple of minutes & then remove the cookie cups from the muffin tin
  5. Heat up the caramel (with water) in the microwave
  6. Fill each cookie cup 2/3 full with caramel then set in fridge for 20 minutes
  7. Heat chocolate in microwave, fill the tops of the cookie cups, and set in fridge

Once the cookies have cooled, they’re all ready to serve! This method creates the most perfect layers. These Twix Cookies are just soooo good! See the recipe card below for full instructions.

Ingredients

  • 16.5 ounces pre-made refrigerated sugar cookie dough 468 grams (1 package) – SEE NOTE
  • 2 cups caramel bits 312 grams
  • 1-2 tablespoons water 14-28 grams
  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips 340 grams
  • Sea salt optional, for topping

Recommended Equipment

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease or spray a cupcake tin. Set aside.

  • Slice about ½-inch rounds of cookie dough. Using your fingers, take each slice and push it into the bottom and up the sides of each cupcake mold. You'll want to press firmly to make sure its adhered to all sides.

16.5 ounces pre-made refrigerated sugar cookie dough

  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until cookies are slightly golden. Depending on your oven, it could take more or less, so watch carefully to make sure they don’t burn.

  • Take out of the oven and create a cup by pushing the end of a shot glass into each cupcake cup (you could also use the bottom of a spice jar or wooden spoon. you just need to push the middle of each cookie back down to create a "cup")

  • Allow to cool slightly, then, using a butter knife, carefully take each cookie out of the cupcake tin.

  • Heat the caramel with the water in a microwave. (use more or less water depending on the consistency of the caramel) Heat in intervals of 30 seconds, stirring between heating. It should take 2-3 times to be fully melted and creamy. Fill each cookie cup ⅔ full with caramel.

2 cups caramel bits, 1-2 tablespoons water

  • Place cookies in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes to set the caramel. While caramel is setting, melt chocolate in the microwave, again, in intervals of 30 seconds.

    2 cups milk chocolate chips

  • Take cookies out of refrigerator and pour the chocolate to the top of each cookie. Sprinkle each cookie with a pinch of sea salt.

    Sea salt

  • Cool cookies in the refrigerator for about another 20 minutes to set the chocolate before serving.

Becky’s tips

  • Cookie Dough:I prefer to buy the log over the tub or pre-scored package because I can get even, already round slices of dough to put in the cupcake tins.
  • You can use regular wrapped caramels in place of the caramel bits.

Storage:Store Twix cookie cups in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or in the freezer for up to 1 month.
